Single storey extension to a period house, Thrupp, Stroud, Gloucestershire

This late Victorian terraced house is built into a steep bank. Its rear garden is almost two storeys above the road level. The demolition of older buildings to the rear left a deep courtyard area at the rear of the house. The garden was accessed by a rickety wooden flight of steps. The proposal was to infill the courtyard with an extension, build a new stairway to the garden level and to remodel the kitchen area to provide a kitchen dining room and a cloakroom. The kitchen ceiling was opened up to the underside of the roof and rooflights inserted. There is a large flat rooflight over the new extension to allow daylight to penetrate the back room.
